Privacy policy
Trivl is a trivia game: quick duels against other players and one daily quiz. This policy says what Trivl keeps about you, why, who else handles it, and how to have it deleted.
Who we are
Trivl is made by Die Digitalen GmbH, Rautistrasse 60, CH-8048 Zürich. For anything about your data, write to privacy@trivl.com.
What we keep
- Your sign-in. You sign in with Apple or with Google. We keep only the identifier Apple or Google gives Trivl for your account. We do not keep your email address or your name.
- Your profile. The handle and avatar you pick, and a country flag, taken from your phone's region, which you can change or remove.
- Your games. Your answers, rounds, duels, daily quiz results, streak and ratings, the language you play in, and when you last played, which we use to match you with active players.
- Your device. A sign-in token for the app, stored only in scrambled (hashed) form on our side, and, if you allow notifications, the token Apple gives us to send them to your device.
- Your purchases. When you buy a category unlock, the App Store's number for that transaction and the credit it added. The app also tags each purchase with a random code belonging to your Trivl account, which Apple returns to us with the transaction. We use both to add the credit exactly once, and only to the account that bought it. Apple takes the payment: we never see your card, your payment details or your Apple ID.
We do not show ads, we do not use analytics or tracking tools, and we do not sell or share your data with anyone to market to you.
What other players see
Your handle, avatar and flag, and the results of duels you play. When no one is available to play, Trivl may replay rounds you played before as a "ghost" opponent for another player, labelled as a ghost of your handle.
Why we use it
To run the game you signed up for: your account, your duels and daily quiz, matchmaking, the purchases you make, and the notifications you allow. Without this data the game cannot work.
Who else handles it
- Fly.io hosts our servers and database, in Frankfurt, Germany. It processes your device's IP address to deliver the app's requests.
- Apple handles Sign in with Apple, takes payment for in-app purchases, and delivers notifications.
- Google handles Sign in with Google.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account. You can do that in the app, under Profile, Edit profile, Delete account. It deletes your account and everything above straight away, on our servers and on your phone, and ends Trivl's access to your Apple ID or Google account.
One thing stays for a while: your handle, and any handle you recently changed away from, is kept on its own, linked to nothing else, for up to 30 days, so no one else can take it and pass as you. When you change your handle, the old one is kept from other players for the same time, and only you can take it back.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, receive a copy, or object to how we use it. Write to privacy@trivl.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the authority where you live.

If we change what we keep or why, we update this page and the date at the top first.
